about
Glenn English is a writer/director based in New York City. He has an MA in theatre from Hunter College and is a recipient of the John Golden Award. His work has been produced in Los Angeles, Manhattan and regionally. Glenn's full length plays include The Sex Life of Waiters, Straw House and Chew. He is a member of CORE Theatre Company and the EAT (Emerging Artists Theatre) writing circle. Glenn was the creator and co-producer of the Sirens Festival, dedicated to the development and production of new works by women authors. He has been featured in Backstage and ETonline.
Glenn specializes in dark, acerbic comedies that concern themselves with the disenfranchised members of society, such as women, children and artists. Though comedic in nature, his work seeks to expose the darker underbelly of personal and societal angst that accompanies the lives of those abandoned by the American dream, and its inherent contradictions.
While often concerned with modern paradigms, his plays sometimes incorporate classical motifs to illustrate the historic patterns of recurring social problems, as well as the chimerical relationship between commerce and art.
Though much of his work is stage orientated, Glenn also writes for the screen, both large and small. He has written a number of original screenplays and works regularly as a script doctor in the feature film market. Glenn is currently developing several television projects for production in network and cable. While his writing exhibits edgy and strong dialogue, it also incorporates a high level of dramatic action that lends it a cinematic quality, thus making much of his work easily adaptable for the camera.
